Where To Use An Electric Smoker

If you’re going to use an electric smoker, you’re going to want to be outdoors. Otherwise you’ll smoke up the house or any indoor area. You can use a ventilation system if you really need to cook indoors. Of course, you want to keep the smoker away from water, as it is an electric appliance and there is the danger of getting shocked. The other thing to bear in mind is you want to have a power outlet close by or at least close enough to reach with a heavy duty extension cord. Keep this in mind and you can use one wherever you want.

Which Electric Smoker To Buy?

After having a look at a few top of the line smokers, we decided that we like the 30-inch Masterbuilt Smoker with RF Remote and the Masterbuilt 30-inch Electric Smoker with Bluetooth the best and these are the models we’ll be discussing in detail. We hope that our research will help you decide which is the best smoker for you.

Is The Masterbuilt 30 Inch Front Controller Electric Smoker with Window and RF Controller Smoker, Right For You?

Take it out of the box and only minor assembly is needed. You’ll have to attach the handle, feet, etc., but it’s pretty easy and quick. This model does come with wheels, so you’ll be able to roll it around easily, which is nice for getting it in and out of the garage, etc. We noticed that the wheels are a little flimsy, being small coaster type wheels so don’t expect to be rolling it long distances or over rough terrain.

This smoker comes with four racks. The racks inside are adjustable which makes it easy to make space for larger food items. We recommend that you remove any racks you aren’t using during cooking, so you don’t have to clean them afterwards. Yes, all the racks will get covered in smoke and juice even if you’re using just one to cook on.

One thing we really like about this smoker is that it comes with a remote so you can check the temperature without ever having to leave your chair! This allows you to spend more time with friends and family instead of having to hop up every few minutes to check on your food.

This unit comes with a front access drip pan and drip catching system for easier clean-up. That being said, we still had quite a mess to contend with after using it. Don’t get me wrong, the food was delicious, as all my friends can attest to, but we have a couple of suggestions to make clean-up easier: If possible, put your food items in a disposable aluminum tray and then place on the racks. We were worried that this might prevent the food from getting smoky enough, but this didn’t turn out to be a problem. This also allows you to add liquid to your meat or whatever while you’re cooking, to keep it moist. Although the drip pan does pull out easily, having the aluminum trays kept juices from dripping into the tray and needing to scrub it afterwards.

Another good tip is to wrap the water pan, grease pan and drip deflector in aluminum foil. This helps a lot during clean-up, as you can just unwrap the foil and throw it away. Otherwise, you’ll have to scrub each individually.

This model comes with a wood chip tray that you can load with your favorite wood chips for smoking. It works pretty well. One thing that we found is that the tray doesn’t hold a lot of chips. All this means is that you’ll have to tend to your chips throughout your cook. The wood chips burned up within the first 30-45 mins of cooking if using dry chips, so I suggest that you soak the chips for a minimum of 30 minutes prior to use.. We decided to keep the wood chips burning pretty steadily during the first part of cooking and then just kept the smoke trapped inside to finish off. The food tasted great and was permeated with that lovely smoky flavor.

A friend who loves to use this smoker claimed there’s never much food left no matter how much food was prepared in the smoker. Yes, it really makes food taste great and we’re not just hyping this either. Most folks use this smoker to cook meat, but my vegetarian friends rave about how great it makes veggies taste. It’s pretty versatile.

One thing we weren’t completely stoked about is that this unit only has a 4′ power cord. . If you need an extension cord we advise only using a heavy duty extension cord.

The smoker comes with 730 square inches of cooking space, which means you can cook a lot of food for plenty of people. This unit comes with an internal light that allows you to see inside as your food cooks. This is great because it allows you to keep an eye on your meal while not having to open the door and let all that precious smoke escape. You will have to clean the window after each cooking. A couple of times we noticed that during the cook the window fogged up so bad that we really couldn’t see inside, but that might have been due to the high-moisture food we were smoking at the time.

This smoker really takes the guess work out of smoking and can literally make meats and veggies taste better than anything you’d get at a barbecue restaurant. Really, friends and family have spoken about how tender and juicy the meat tastes and ask when they can come over again for another meal. Pretty awesome.

The front controller has a blue LED display which allows for easy viewing. Although direct sunlight may interfere with the ability to read the display.

A remote control lets you turn the smoker on or off and adjust the temperature as required.

Another thing we like about this smoker is that the sides are well insulated, unlike other some of the other wood/charcoal smokers we looked at. This makes it safe for kids to be around and is not hot to the touch. That means you can relax a little more, enjoy yourself a bit more and not have to worry about the kids burning themselves. This, along with the temperature remote readout, really gives you the freedom and peace of mind to just relax and enjoy. It’s one of our favorite things about this smoker.

Is The Masterbuilt 30-inch Electric Smoker with Bluetooth Right For You?

This smoker not only makes delicious food a breeze to make, you can control it with your smart phone or tablet too. That’s Bluetooth technology for you. This really can impress the neighbors. It’s also great for being able to relax and enjoy more time with your friends and family instead of having to get up and check your food every few minutes.

The Bluetooth allows you to turn the unit off and on, to set the temperature and time, and monitor the temperature via the included meat probe.

It has 721 square inches of cooking space, giving you the ability to cook lots of food for lots of folks at the same time. One of our favorite accessories that comes with this smoker is the built-in meat probe thermometer. This allows you to monitor internal meat temperature from your phone or tablet so you’ll be free to do other things while you smoke away.

The max temperature that this smoker can get up to is 275 degrees. It has a 800 watt heating element for even, smooth smoking. This makes creating a delicious meal fun and easy.

Another nice thing about this smoker is that you can add wood chips from the side, so you don’t need to open and close the smoker. This makes loading wood chips easy and you don’t have to lose any smoke and heat as you do so.

It also has back wheels which make moving the smoker that much easier.

Once we got the unit, it was easy to assemble. All you really need to do is attach the wheels, pull bar and insert the grease tray. It took us about 30 minutes and it’s a one man job. Here’s a tip – when using it for the first time, fire the smoker up for 3 hours at 275 degrees F before cooking. This only needs to be done the first time you use it.

One thing’s for sure – this smoker makes really delicious food. Our friends and family literally raved about how it tasted better than barbecue they get from restaurants.

This smoker is for you if you want to create incredibly tasty meals easily. It really takes the guess work out of smoking. Food came out delicious every time we used it.

The window is a nice added feature, as you can look in and check on your food without having to open the door. Be aware that the window will often fog up with smoke and steam and sometimes make it hard to see what’s going on in there. That being said, it cooks so well, you don’t really need to have eyes on it. With the added temperature probe, you know what’s going on inside without having to take a look.

A friend has used this unit outdoors in 30 degree temperature. It didn’t affect performance at all. It performed just as well as in warmer weather. This person also leaves the unit outside all the time – in rain, sun, wind and it continues to operate just fine.

One of the main cons about this unit is the different experiences some users have had with the Bluetooth accessory. One person said they could only operate the smoker if they were within 10 to 15 feet of it. Yet another person claims they had no problem operating it from 60- 70 feet away. Not sure what’s going on there, but be aware that there have been a few complaints about the Bluetooth not operating well on this unit.

The convenience of an electric smoker cannot be overstated – you just turn it on and leave. After adding wood chips of course.
